The music industry has been particularly hard hit over the last year. As things start to ease into a new routine, one wonders how artists in this entertainment industry will recover. After all, the industry relies on live performances and getting people together to enjoy the sounds they create.
Many music artists have not taken the drastic measures of the pandemic to heart. During these times, self-isolating kept them away from music festivals, band members, managers, recording studios, and fans, which allowed their creativity to flow.
The internet has contributed to making us aware of their work, and many of us are looking forward to their contributions for 2021. This year, we anticipate seeing what some artists, especially those from relatively unknown Indie rock bands, will release.
Let us bring you up to date with the seven indie rock bands we feel will blow your mind.
This Scottish rock band from West Lothian was formed in 2015 when the members were still in school. Fans can’t wait for the return of the festival season to see the band performing across the British isles again.
If you haven’t heard of The Snuts before, their fans include people who listen to Foals and Primal Scream. Even though the band members have said the Arctic Monkeys and Libertines influence them, they aim not to sound like anyone else.
They switch between sounds effortlessly and produce killer choruses about every human emotion.
Before releasing their debut single “Glasgow,” the band already managed sold-out appearances in the Barrowlads. Their latest album “W.L.” was released in early April.
Hailing from Austin, Texas, this duo offers alternative rock sounds. Hovvdy’s first E.P. was released in 2014, but they have since released three albums, “Taster,” “Cranberry,” and “Heavy Lifter.” Their music is enjoyable, calming, and downtempo. Even though they have made no recent announcements about any new albums, we hope there is one coming soon.
From Wigan in the U.K., the four-piece band, The Lathums, has been very busy. Late in 2020, they live-streamed their Blackpool Tower show, but this band is irresistible to listen to when they play live. They remind us of The Charlatans and the Kooks.
The band already has some famous fans and was invited by Tim Burgess to play at last year’s Kendal Calling Festival. Their new E.P., “Ghosts,” was produced by James Skelly. Their lead track, “I See Your Ghost,” is very similar to Coral’s early sounds.
With their live shows for 2021 already sold out, this band deserves more international attention.
Forget about your dull day by listening to the grimy garage rock band Kid Kapichi.
This four-member indie rock band is from Hastings in the U.K. As the world came to a standstill, the band carried on with their hard work and self-produced their debut album. Their political-punk sounds are great online, but their huge sounds are meant to be heard live.
The twelve tracks of their album “This Time Next Year” all sound great, and we love the key track, “Working Man’s Town.”
Many call the young singer from Wisconsin the new rock hero because he lets go of rock’s unbending boundaries. KennyHoopla presents us with many inspiring sounds. Not bad for someone who says his first recording at around the age of 10 was “horrible.”
His music represents the next generation in a melding of punk and emo rap together, slightly reminiscent of old rock, and yet an exciting leap into the future.
Since 2016, we have enjoyed his E.P. “Beneath the Willow Tree,” and we have heard some great singles like “Waves” and “Cave” and “Lost Cause.” Last year he released his single “How Will I Rest in Peace if I’m Buried by a Highway?” for which he received lots of praise.
KennyHoopla is a modern rock star with a bright future ahead.
This punk rock band from the East Coast seems to have a knack for taking the best from both worlds and creating sounds that are winning them lots of fans.
Anxious creates sounds that resemble Fiddlehead and Title Fight, but there is nothing exaggerated about them. The band emits contagious energy, and we love the passionate vocals from Grady Allen. Listen to their key track “Small,” and you’ll know what we are going on about.
This young Minneapolis artist is from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Miloe released his E.P. “Greenhouse” in 2020, and now that he has given us a taste of what he can do, we can’t wait to see what he will put out there for us in 2021.
He has seduced us with his five tracks that showcase his talent in merging captivating melodies with simple instrumentals that blow their listener away. He hasn’t announced plans for 2021 so far, but we hope there is something in the works.
