9 Over-Hyped Health and Wellness Trends that Might be Doing You More Harm Than Good

Some Health and Wellness  Trends Do More Harm than Good

During the past few years, there has been an increased focus on health and wellness. While it is important for everyone to take a well-rounded approach to healthcare, some trends are doing more harm than good. What are a few prominent examples?

Three jade eggs for the development of intimate muscles stand near a pink flowers on a white background

Jade Eggs

One of the first myths that has to be debunked is the use of jade or yoni eggs. These are gemstones that are shaped like eggs that are supposed to be inserted inside the body to improve muscle capacity in that area. Meant to increased sexual prowess, this is something that is simply unsafe. These eggs hurt the muscles of the pelvic floor instead of providing any real benefits.

Biohacking

Another trend that has to go away is called biohacking. This process involves taking high-tech gadgets to identify supplements and chemical injections that are supposed to make the body work in a “better” way. The reality is that most people promoting this trend do not realize that inserting unusual substances and objects into the body might actually lead to cancer. Avoid this.

Juice Cleanses

Juice that is high in fruits and veggies can be beneficial; however, too much of anything can be a bad thing. First, juices are incredibly high in sugar and can lead to diabetes. Second, those who fill up on juice develop deficiencies in other areas, such as protein. Finally, too much juice can also lead to bacterial infections and kidney stones.

Green Tea for Weight Loss

This fad seemed to gain some traction in the 2010s and while green tea is an enjoyable drink, it does not contain some miracle ingredient that will magically make the weight fall off. Green tea certainly beats soda and juice in that it doesn’t contain an excess amount of sugar, but people still need to eat a healthy diet and exercise to lose weight.

Alcohol and Pot Yoga

Yoga is a great form of exercise. This body weight workout will help people stabilize their core, increase their flexibility, and alleviate stress. One thing that people should not do while exercising, including performing yoga, is consume alcohol or cannabis. This places undue stress on the body and could lead to serious medical problems.

Urine Therapy

For some reason, people seem to think that drinking urine will treat gum and teeth related problems. Remember that urine is supposed to remove toxins from the body. Putting them bad into the body is not going to be helpful. Scientific studies have revealed that drinking urine is not good for the body and should not be done.

Cauliflower as the Miracle Food

It doesn’t matter how people try to lose weight, without a well-rounded diet accompanied by exercise, it is not going to work. Yes, cauliflower is a delicious vegetable that has its benefits; however, eating nothing but cauliflower is not a healthy way to lose weight. The body will be completely devoid of other nutrients, leading to serious health problems.

Drinking Charcoal

Activated charcoal should only be used under the supervision of medical professionals. It can be used to treat certain types of toxic ingestions; however, it should not be used lightly. There are drinks, creams, and cleansers with charcoal that have swept the market. None of these benefits are backed by science.

Himalayan Rocks for Medical Treatment

Finally, some people believe that Himalayan rocks or salt lamps emit ions that are supposed to balance the room and absorb toxins. There is no proof that this works and some people are trying to replace real medical care with these rocks. This is going to place people in harm’s way and should be avoided.
