Charity Rushes to Aid Impoverished in Brazil as Pandemic Highlights Internal Struggles

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted everyone and while much of the focus has been on the United States and China, the reality is that other countries are struggling as well. This is particularly true in Brazil, where the President has flatly failed to keep his country safe. Brazil was already struggling with a tremendous amount of internal turmoil even before the pandemic showed up. Now, the pandemic is placing a tremendous amount of stress on a country that simply does not have a lot of room left to accommodate this type of stress. The good news is that charities are stepping up to provide assistance.

One such example is  Instituto Dana Salomão, which is led by Maia B Toguchi. The reality is that Brazil knew this pandemic was coming for months; however, the government was not able to get prepared in time. This simply services to highlight internal struggles that continue to take place within the government of one of the largest countries in the world. Those who have been most impacted by everything that has taken place are the impoverished individuals and families who live in this country. Finally, the government decided to decree a state of emergency. Fortunately, the Instituto Dana Salomão was ready to provide help.

The Instituto Dana Salomão decided to start handing out emergency kits to the areas that were most in need. This includes alcohol gel, soap, masks, and more. Their initial goal was to hand out more than 5,000 masks and 1,000 containers of alcohol gel to the Federal District alone through a donation from Israel that I was able to procure and a donation from Chase Bank of New York through their Vice President of Investment Eli Buckman. At the same time, the Instituto Dana Salomão knows that this is not enough. There are millions of people in Brazil who need assistance and, if people are not able to follow the guidelines, then there is a chance that the hospital system might get overwhelmed. For these reasons, it is important for everyone to follow the  guidelines and ask for the government to help. In the meantime,  Instituto Dana Salomão and Maia Tiane are here to help individuals and families deal with these difficult times.

Right now, it is unclear how Brazil is going to be able to deal with the rapid pace of change that is taking place with the virus. The reality is that the pandemic is going to be here until there is a vaccine available. This might not be ready for another year. Therefore, it is more important now than ever before for everyone to come together and support each other. This means wearing masks, staying apart, and using hand sanitizer on a regular basis. This is where charities, such as Instituto Dana Salomão, are providing care and assistance to those in need.
