Summer is over. You have two options for your hot tub. You can shut it down for the winter. Or, you can take steps to keep it up and running all year long. There are some simple steps you can take to get year-round enjoyment from your hot tub. Here are six steps you can follow to ensure that your hot tub is ready when you are.
1- Keep Your Hot Tub Covered
When it comes to enjoying your hot tub all year long, one of the best things you can do is keep it covered when it’s not in use. Covering your hot tub helps you maintain the right pH and chemical levels. A hot tub cover can also ensure energy efficiency. That’s because a cover helps keep your hot tub warm between uses. As an added benefit the cover will keep animals out of your hot tub when it’s not in use.
2- Utilize the Hot Tub Pump
If you’re not going to be using your hot tub, you might think you can turn off the pump. That’s not the case. Leaving the pump running will actually help you get more use out of your hot tub. Running the pump helps the water maintain clarity and reduces cloudiness. But, running the pump also helps keep some of the debris out of your hot tub, which means you can spend less time cleaning and more time relaxing. Plus, when you keep the pump running, your hot tub will be ready when you are.
3- Choose the Right Filters
If you want to enjoy your hot tub beyond the summer months, you need to choose the right filters. Some filters will only last for a few months. That’s where a quality hot tub filter comes into the picture. A quality filter could last up to a year. But, you’ll still need to clean your hot tub filter from time to time. An easy way to keep your filter clean between replacements is to soak it in a bleach and water solution. Rinse the filter in clear water before putting it back into the hot tub.
4- Rinse Before Relaxing
If you want to keep your hot tub clean and sanitary all year long, make sure you rinse off before getting into the water. Things like body oils, tanning lotions, and stay-in hair conditioners can be washed off in the heated water. When that happens, the water gets dirty faster and the filter can get clogged up. Plus, you’ll get a thin layer of scum on your hot tub. Rinsing off will eliminate the problems.
5- Use a Testing Service
When you own a hot tub, test your water several times a week. In addition to the at-home testing, you should also take your water to a testing service from time to time. A professional water testing service can catch the issues that at-home testing misses.
6- Check for Signs of Damage
If you want to use your hot tub all year long, be sure to check for signs of damage. Look for things like loose wires, leaks, or broken lights. If you find problems like that, you should get them taken care of right away.
You don’t have to stop using your hot tub when summer ends. Use the tips here to enjoy your hot tub all year.
