
After many movie production postponements and outsourcing to streaming services in 2020, cinema patrons eagerly anticipate all the new movie releases of 2021. Hopefully, as the number of vaccinated cinema patrons increases worldwide, local cinemas will start opening again soon.
These are the movies we’re most excited to see in 2021:
The Woman in the Window – Directed by Joe Wright (Darkest Hour)
Date of release: May 14 (Netflix)
Cast includes: Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie, Fred Hechinger
The adaptation of the bestseller was due for release in 2019, but various difficulties, including reshoots and the pandemic, delayed it. Produced by the Disney-Fox deal, the delays resulted in its sale to Netflix. We can’t wait to finally see if the screen version captures the suspense of the book.
Those Who Wish Me Dead – Directed by Taylor Sheridan (Wind River)
Date of release: May 14 (Theaters and on HBO Max)
Cast includes: Angelina Jolie, Nicholas Hoult, Aidan Gillen, Jon Bernthal
The film is an adaptation of a novel by Micahel Koryta. A teenager witnesses a murder and runs in a burning Montana forest with a survival expert. A pair of assassins pursue him in this survival action thriller.
A Quiet Place Part II – Directed by John Krasinski (A Quiet Place)
Date of release: May 28 (Theaters)
Cast includes: Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, Cillian Murphy
The ending of A Quiet Place didn’t hint at a sequel, but we will watch the family as they adapt to living with the cruel alien invaders. They now have a baby to care for, and we are interested to know how they adapt and survive.
The Conjuring: Devil Made Me Do It – Directed by Michael Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona)
Date of Release: June 4 in theaters and on HBO Max
Cast includes: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ruairi O’Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook
This is the third Conjuring movie, and we love the fact they chose a subtitle instead of numbering it. We can’t wait to see how the paranormal investigators will get to the bottom of their next case.
Fatherhood – Director by Paul Weitz (Bel Canto, About A Boy, Grandma)
Date of release: June 18 (Netflix)
Cast includes: Kevin Hart, Alfre Woodard, Melody Hurd, Anthony Carrigan
Here Kevin Hart gets a chance to show off his serious side in this drama, an adaptation of a memoir written by Matthew Logelin. In Fatherhood, Hartis a father dealing with loss, and Paul Weitz has shown us that he is very good with stories dealing with family struggles.
F9 – Directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6)
Date of release: June 25 (Theaters)
Cast includes: Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, Michelle Rodriguez, John Cena, Sung Kang
In the 9th part of this series, Dom Torretto and his crew team face his family.
Black Widow – Directed by Cate Shortland (Berlin Syndrome)
Date of release: July 9 (Theaters and Disney+)
Cast includes: Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, David Harbour
From Marvel Studios comes the long-awaited standalone picture featuring the female Avenger. It seems we are in for some real action in the events between Civil War and Infinity War.
Space Jam: A New Legacy – Directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Night School)Directed by: July 16 in theaters and on HBO Max
Cast includes: LeBron James, Sonequa Martin-Green, Don Cheadle, Bugs Bunny
Terrence Nance may not direct this Space Jam sequel, but we are looking forward to seeing the new basketball saga with LeBron James and the Looney Tunes.
Jungle Cruise – Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Commuter)
Date of release: July 30 (Theaters)
Cast includes: Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Edgar Ramirez
This is a family fun adventure movie based on the river cruise theme park ride in Disneyland. “The Rock” (Dwayne Johnson) and Emily Blunt must fend for themselves in the untamed Amazon.
Bios – Directed by Miguel Sapochnik (Repo Men)
Date of release: August 20 in theaters
Cast includes: Tom Hanks, Caleb Landry Jones, Samira Wiley, Laura Harrier
Tom Hanks plays the inventor of a robot. It is directed by Miguel Sapochink, the director of some of the best Game of Thrones episodes, making us very keen to see this sci-fi movie with a twist.
No Time to Die – Directed byCary Joji Fukunaga (Beasts of No Nation)
Date of release: October 8 (Theaters)
Cast includes: Daniel Craig, Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch, Ana de Armas
Daniel Craig’s final role as James Bond has been somewhat shaky. Besides Craig suffering an injury during filming, Danny Boyle also left the project. Delayed many times because of the pandemic, the film based on James Bond by Ian Fleming is one of the most anticipated movies for 2021.
Matrix 4 – Directed by Lana Wachowski (Jupiter Ascending)
Date of release: December 22 (Theaters and HBO Max)
Cast includes: Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jonathan Groff, Jessica Henwick
It has been many years, but the Matrix is finally back. The title claimed title is Matrix: Resurrection. Not much is written about the plot, but there will be many familiar faces. However, Hugo Weaving and Gina Torres are not returning.
